Changing the Narrative

Journey North Opera is pulling back the curtain on misogyny in the arts!

After the resounding success of our inaugural event in August 2021, JNOC has decided to make this series an annual event to continue sharing the voices of female and non-binary artists. Changing the Narrative gives artists the chance to share their experiences of encountering misogyny and discrimination in the performing arts industry and provides them space to express their emotions through music.

Please join us for an evening of humor and heart as ten incredible Twin Cities-based, women and non-binary singers deliver a thoughtfully crafted set of personal stories and songs ranging across multiple genres.

Performances take place at Urban Growler Brewing in St. Paul, the first women-owned microbrewery in Minnesota.

Thank you for making our second-annual Changing the Narrative a success! Please join us again in summer 2023 for more stories and music at Urban Growler Brewing!

Mezzo-soprano Sahar Hassan and pianist Carson Rose Schneider perform Ricky Ian Gordon's "Will there really be a morning?" as part of Journey North Opera's Changing the Narrative series. Changing the Narrative features female and non-binary singers sharing personal stories of facing misogyny and discrimination in the arts industry and performing a piece of their choice reflecting on that experience.
